As a Deputy Sheriff Detentions/Courts Cadet, you will attend a 16-week training program with the department's Detentions/Courts Academy. This academy is recognized for offering the most demanding, comprehensive, and extensive Corrections Officer core training in the State of California.

Curriculum

The curriculum covers all required Board of Corrections subjects in addition to the following training:

  • 832 PC Laws of Arrest and Firearms
  • Shotgun
  • Chemical Agents
  • Baton
  • Cell Extraction
  • Riot Control
  • Firefighting
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Criminal Law
  • Civil Liability
  • Cultural Awareness
  • Vehicle Operations

Academy Location

The Detentions/Courts Academy is held at the Miramar Regional Training Facility at Miramar College in San Diego, CA.

Salary

Detentions/Courts Academy Cadets are offered a starting salary of $16.33 per hour equivalent to $33,966 per year. You will also receive benefits.

Housing

The Detentions/Courts Academy is not a live-in academy and therefore housing is not provided.
